I have been blessed to have had a diverse and meaningful career, spanning parts of 4 decades, with one of the largest privately held companies in the world. My experience transcended beyond just engineering and with Cargill being a global company, it allowed me to work with many different cultures. I had the pleasure of engineering many projects over the years, from small expansions and debottlenecking, to brownfield technology replacements, to designing and building two state-of-the-art greenfield locations — which have been industry recognized as “best in class”.
I was afforded the opportunity to lead significant projects with the corporate Strategy and Business Development Group. This resulted in real-application responsibility for business unit strategies over $10mm, merger and acquisition evaluations, plus leadership assessment and development.
I have held many leadership positions of responsibility at the executive-suite level over the years, working for and leading an organization that incorporates this vital and ultimate accountability philosophy: “if you build it…you will manage it”. This has led to firsthand experience in culture establishment for greenfield companies, as well as, leading several cultural assessment, integration, and inclusion efforts associated with post acquisition activities.
I have a real and proven appreciation for cultural diversity and creating success. As the design, construction and operations manager for a state-of-the-art biotech facility that was a joint venture with Mitsubishi Chemical Company, I honed this skill firsthand. This was the world’s largest greenfield operation for the proprietary product, and with the vital component of operational sustainability imbedded at all points…continues to be recognized as one of the most successful projects in the Cargill portfolio.
I had the privilege and pleasure of an appointment as Business Unit leader and President for a business in Brazil for 4 years. This was an underperforming entity in all measurable areas of business success. Through application of business excellence foundations and leadership I personally brought, results included: turned around the business, improved employee engagement scores and successfully completed two strategic acquisitions, with the all-important successful integration of the business into ours.
I closed out my career with Cargill as Vice President for North America Operations. This executive high-profile responsibility and critical business leadership assignment included 14 facilities and leadership of a team of over 2,000 people. There were many successful accomplishments over the years from winning the Malcomb Baldrige Award for Outstanding Business Practices, to having our operating facilities being globally recognized as “best in class”, to overall improvement of employee engagement and significantly improved financial health and profitability.
